A Name, a blessing and a picnic.

Today Micah gave Nigel a name and a blessing in sacrament meeting in the Grandview 1st Ward of the Grandview Stake in Provo, UT. So many people came to support us in this sort of rite of passage. I felt like it was some kind of coming out, announcing to the world that Nigel is born and we're ready to enter life again. We're somehow over the shock of sleep depravation and responsibility of parenthood.

Christine wrote down what she could from the blessing Micah gave. It was beautiful:

Nigel will have love in his life. He will show love to those around him. Heavenly Father counseled him to let love guide him in all his dealings. Nigel will love his wife dearly. He will have passion throughout his life. Nigel will be blessed to find his testimony ealry and it will be strong. Nigel will live a long life full of happiness and joy.

It seems that there was something else about serving a mission, but I can't remember now...

We're only making plans for Nigel

Part koala. Part goat.

He hangs out like a koala.

He sounds like a goat. Bleet.

The Anderson Birth Story

Congratulations Micah and Camille. Welcome Nigel, to this wonderful thing we call family.

I call this first one:

"Holy crap, he's 6 weeks early???!!!"

Son or Daughter?

On April 17th Micah and I went to have our first ultrasound. Now, before I give away what cold, hard science tells us the gender of our firstborn is, you have to hear all the reasons why we thought we already knew.(10 perfect toes)

1. The first time we heard the heart beat, baby's heart rate was 174 beats per minute. Sharon, Jon's mother and a very recently retired nurse told us that that usually means it's a boy.

(Come on. Vogue.)
2. Over conference weekend, we strung a gold ring (several different gold rings, several different times) by a string and held it over my womb. Each time it would swing back and forth on its own. (To test this method we did the same thing over Callie's womb to see if it would swing in a circle since she is having a girl - and it did - every time. We also did the same thing over Carlie's womb and it did nothing every single time.)
(We already think baby has my nose. Doesn't it look like you could smash it all the way to the face?)

3. Our next door neighbor, Oscar is an elderly gentleman from Brazil. The first time we told him we were having a baby he asked me how far along I was and told me to turn around. I turned in a circle and Micah said he was watching my feet as I turned. After a complete circle, Oscar said in his charming Brazilian old man accent, "Congratulations! It's a boy!"

4. The Chinese Lunar Calendar told us we were having a boy.

Now here's the scientific version of all that:
